Program Description

The master of science degree in agriculture, forestry, and consumer sciences is an interdisciplinary degree that offers advanced study in all areas of agriculture, forestry, and consumer sciences. This program provides an opportunity for students to expand on the knowledge and skills they acquired during undergraduate studies in the broad areas of food and fiber production.

The master of Science in agriculture, forestry, and consumer sciences may benefit individuals who are seeking a higher paying position, wish to improve chances for admission to a college of veterinary medicine, want to make a career change, obtain a broad educational base in the diverse areas of environmental studies, or start an entrepreneurship.

Career Profile

Positions for employment are available in numerous settings including private industry, education, and federal and state government agencies. Graduates may find employment as educators, researchers, agriculturalists, extension agents, conservationists, or may start their own business. Many graduates also enter professional schools and doctoral programs.

Graduate Program Application Requirements

Applicants must arrange for official copies of transcripts and test scores to be sent directly to the WVU Office of Graduate Admissions and Recruitment at PO Box 6510, Morgantown, WV 26506-6510. If being sent by delivery service (Federal Express, UPS, etc) requiring a street address, please use WVU Office of Graduate Admissions and Recruitment, 1500 One Waterfront Place, Morgantown, WV 26501. The program requirements listed below (if any) are in addition to the main WVU Graduate Application.

  • Personal Statement
  • Recommendations: 3 Letters of Recommendation Required
  • Test Requirements: GRE

English Language Proficiency

All applicants whose first language is not English must provide proof of English language proficiency. WVU accepts either the TOEFL or the IELTS for this purpose. Please see Office of Admissions - English Language Proficiency for more information.
