The Athletic Coaching Education major prepares students for a variety of roles in the coaching profession. Possibilities include coaching athletes of varying age and ability levels, including youth, masters, scholastic, intercollegiate and individuals with disabilities and special needs. Additional roles may include strength and conditioning, director of operations, etc.
The bachelor’s degree consists of a sequenced curriculum that focuses on professional knowledge, sport-specific science and pedagogical skills mixed with interpersonal and intrapersonal skill sets. Practicum experiences provide opportunities to learn and apply the principles and practices of coaching across a wide range of participation and performance-based settings. Professional networking and social skills are emphasized.
English Language Proficiency
All applicants whose first language is not English must provide proof of English language proficiency. WVU accepts either the TOEFL or the IELTS for this purpose. Please see Office of Admissions - English Language Proficiency for more information.
