Program Description

The M.S.M.E. program builds the knowledge and skills of by combining both research and academic course work. Students choose coursework in mechanical systems design, system dynamics, solid mechanics, energy systems, engineering materials, automatic controls, mechatronics, and computational mechanics.

Graduate Program Application Requirements

Applicants must arrange for official copies of transcripts and test scores to be sent directly to the WVU Office of Graduate Admissions and Recruitment at PO Box 6510, Morgantown, WV 26506-6510. If being sent by delivery service (Federal Express, UPS, etc) requiring a street address, please use WVU Office of Graduate Admissions and Recruitment, 1500 One Waterfront Place, Morgantown, WV 26501. The program requirements listed below (if any) are in addition to the main WVU Graduate Application.

  • Recommendations: Requires three letters of recommendation
  • Test Requirements: TOEFL and GRE tests are required for International Admissions

English Language Proficiency

All applicants whose first language is not English must provide proof of English language proficiency. WVU accepts either the TOEFL or the IELTS for this purpose. Please see Office of Admissions - English Language Proficiency for more information.

Additional Information

Summary All students are highly recommended to submit GRE scores to be considered for funding and fellowships. Any student who earned their previous degree from an international institution is required to take the GRE (quantitative GRE scores must be in the 75th percentile). TOEFL for non-native-English speakers is required with 550 score or above.
All applicants must have earned a grade point average (GPA) of 3.0 or better (out of a possible 4.0) in all previous college degrees from an accredited or internationally recognized program.
