The mission of the WVU Music Education program is to raise the status of music education regionally and nationally through cultivation of highly effective practice and relevant knowledge in undergraduate students, graduate students and in-service music educators. The WVU Music Education curriculum is comprehensive and will prepare students for a variety of teaching settings.
Students successfully completing the music education curriculum and all West Virginia Department of Education certification requirements will be qualified for a professional certificate allowing them to teach instrumental, vocal and general music in West Virginia public schools, grades birth through adult.
Other states may employ teachers with West Virginia certification if they participate in teacher credential reciprocity, an agreement between states to recognize teaching credentials issued by each other. Additional certification criteria may be required by certain states.
