Program Description

The performance curricula are designed for students who want to prepare themselves as performers or as teachers of a particular instrument or voice. The instrumental area includes these band or orchestra instruments: flute, oboe, clarinet, saxophone, bassoon, horn, trumpet, trombone, euphonium, tuba, percussion, violin, viola, cello, double bass and guitar.

Career Profile

The increased interest of society today in the arts is creating many new opportunities for professional musicians and for private music teachers. Those majoring in performance are prepared for careers as performers or for graduate study. Our alumni are successful artists, performers, educators and teachers.

English Language Proficiency

All applicants whose first language is not English must provide proof of English language proficiency. WVU accepts either the TOEFL or the IELTS for this purpose. Please see Office of Admissions - English Language Proficiency for more information.
