Program Description

The Bachelor of Fine Arts in Art Education is a nationally accredited, professional track teacher-certification degree. Supported by their experiences in the studio arts, art history and education, students throughout the 5-year program engage in various types of teaching and related activities. They observe teachers in the public schools; work with these teachers on special projects; and conclude with a semester practice teaching with selected elementary and secondary school teachers. The program produces well-rounded artist/teachers with a high placement record in the discipline.

Career Profile

Students in the Art Education program earn their BFA degree with a studio concentration as well as certification to teach art in the schools, pre-K to 12.

English Language Proficiency

All applicants whose first language is not English must provide proof of English language proficiency. WVU accepts either the TOEFL or the IELTS for this purpose. Please see Office of Admissions - English Language Proficiency for more information.
