WVU Ceramics emphasizes development of technical expertise. Design and conceptual approaches are emphasized as a means to expand a student’s aesthetic vocabulary. Our goal is to help students gain insight into their professional approach and commitment in their pursuit of process and self-discovery as artists.
The Ceramics program has offered a comprehensive summer study program in Jingdezhen, China, since 1995. In 2004, a fall semester program was added that provides advanced undergraduate, graduate and professional-level studies in ceramics, including basic language, culture and Chinese ceramic art history.
Additionally, the Ceramics Technology Global Research Center promotes creative inquiry at the intersection of advanced technology and ceramics. Projects integrate high-end technology into the art-making process through cross-disciplinary collaboration and community involvement.
Our goal is to help students gain insight into their professional approach and commitment in their active pursuit of process and self-discovery as artists.
