Program Description

The WVU Energy Land Management program is one of ten programs in North America accredited by the American Association of Professional Landmen.

Energy land managers have important roles in the energy sector, including:
• Determining the ownership of surface and subsurface rights
• Negotiating contracts and leases
• Coordinating field exploration activities
• Serving as a liaison between lease owners and exploration and production companies
• Ensuring community and environmental quality during energy development

Career Profile

The knowledge and skillsets developed through the program enable students to pursue careers in all aspects of the energy land management field, including oil, natural gas, coal and renewable energy sectors. Energy land managers attract high salaries, with experienced land professionals earning significantly more.

English Language Proficiency

All applicants whose first language is not English must provide proof of English language proficiency. WVU accepts either the TOEFL or the IELTS for this purpose. Please see Office of Admissions - English Language Proficiency for more information.
