The program is built around an applied curriculum with a strong theoretical and quantitative foundation. This involves taking doctoral courses, passing a finance comprehensive exam, and defending a dissertation. The doctoral degree has aspects of an apprenticeship that can only be accomplished on campus, working directly with the business faculty, and because teaching on campus is a requirement.
To prepare PhD candidates for university teaching responsibilities, students are expected to teach after their second year in the program. They will work closely with faculty to ensure quality instruction and receive feedback on their development as university-level teachers.

Graduate Program Application Requirements
Applicants must arrange for official copies of transcripts and test scores to be sent directly to the WVU Office of Graduate Admissions and Recruitment at PO Box 6510, Morgantown, WV 26506-6510. If being sent by delivery service (Federal Express, UPS, etc) requiring a street address, please use WVU Office of Graduate Admissions and Recruitment, 1500 One Waterfront Place, Morgantown, WV 26501. The program requirements listed below (if any) are in addition to the main WVU Graduate Application.

English Language Proficiency
